MAYAN EXHIBITION & SHAMANIC MARKET

The Mayan ancestors marked time through art, dance music and spiritual life. In the Mayan calendar, the counting and beginning of life begins with counting of Nawal B'atz. The word B'atz 'in many Mayan languages means thread or fabric. The Mayan weavings and textiles are the manifested vision of the grandmothers. Through these weavings the knowledge is protected & safe guarded through generations. The weaving is vision, It is concentration, it is time counting, it is mathematical, it is art as a whole.

The Mayan Exhibition will demonstrate works of art, clothing, huipiles, ceremonial belts and modern mayan clothing styles of the Tz'utujil Maya of Lake Atitlan. Tz'utujil Mayan Elder, Nana Marina Cruz will give a talk about the ancient weaving of the Mayans and the significants of the patterns. The talk will happen at 7PM.

This exhibition is a fundraiser to support the purchase of a piece of land in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. This land will serve as a spiritual center for the preservation of Mayan culture, art, spirituality & language. This project is led by Nana Marina and includes many Mayan elders of the region.

In addition, we will have a Shamanic Market which begins at 3PM.
